Overview

The Seniors Program Lead designs and delivers bi-monthly programming specifically for Muslim seniors, creating community connection, practical skill-building, and meaningful engagement for this often-overlooked demographic. This role involves organizing technology workshops that empower seniors with digital literacy, coordinating group trips and outings, and building a welcoming space where older Muslims feel valued and connected to the broader MKMC community. You report to the Director of Programming and serve as the primary advocate ensuring senior voices and needs are integrated into organizational planning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute bi-monthly senior programming including technology workshops, social gatherings, and educational sessions

  • Organize quarterly group trips to culturally relevant destinations, religious sites, or recreational venues

  • Develop technology curriculum addressing seniors' specific needs: smartphones, video calls, online banking, social media safety

  • Build partnerships with local senior support organizations and healthcare providers for relevant programming

  • Recruit and coordinate volunteer support for transportation assistance, event logistics, and one-on-one tech help

  • Maintain active communication with senior participants and their families to address needs and gather feedback

  • Create inclusive programming accessible to seniors with varying mobility, language proficiency, and health conditions

Expectations & Commitment

  • Time Commitment: 8–10 hours per month (bi-monthly sessions + quarterly trips + planning)

  • Reporting: Direct report to Director of Programming with quarterly program updates

  • Strategic Planning: Submit 6-month program calendar including workshop topics and trip destinations within 30 days

  • Safety & Accessibility: Maintain senior-appropriate safety protocols and accessibility accommodations

  • Professional Development: Participate in quarterly volunteer training sessions

Success Metrics

  • Maintain consistent bi-monthly attendance of 15+ seniors within first quarter

  • Execute 100% of scheduled programming and quarterly trips without cancellation

  • Achieve measurable technology competency improvements through workshop assessments

  • Build volunteer support team of 4–5 individuals assisting with various program aspects

  • Demonstrate high participant satisfaction (90%+) and strong word-of-mouth community growth

First 90-Day Priorities

  • Launch inaugural bi-monthly gathering establishing welcoming atmosphere and program structure

  • Execute first technology workshop on high-demand topic (WhatsApp, video calls, or smartphone basics)

  • Plan and complete first group trip with full safety protocols and accessibility considerations

  • Establish senior participant database with contact information, family connections, and special needs

  • Build communication system suitable for seniors (phone tree, WhatsApp for capable users, family liaisons)

  • Recruit initial volunteer team for transportation and tech support assistance

Systems & Tools

  • Phone-based communication supplemented by WhatsApp for connected seniors

  • Google Sheets for participant database, trip planning, and volunteer coordination

  • Technology workshop materials tailored to senior learning pace and accessibility needs

  • Emergency contact system and safety protocols for trips and gatherings

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Patient, compassionate approach with genuine respect and care for elderly community members

  • Experience working with seniors in caregiving, educational, or recreational settings

  • Technology proficiency with ability to teach digital skills slowly and clearly to novice users

  • Strong organizational skills for coordinating accessible trips and multi-faceted programming

  • Cultural sensitivity to diverse senior backgrounds, languages, and Islamic practice levels

  • Problem-solving abilities to address mobility, health, and accessibility challenges

  • Age 35+ preferred; maturity and life experience that builds trust with senior demographic
