Overview
The Photographer captures compelling visual content documenting MKMC programs, events, and community moments, creating an authentic visual narrative of organizational life. This role requires photography skills, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to work within Islamic guidelines regarding photography to produce high-quality images for social media, website, promotional materials, and community archives. You report to the Marketing Lead and serve as the primary visual storyteller.
Key Responsibilities
Photograph all major MKMC events and select regular programs creating diverse visual content library
Deliver edited, high-quality images to Marketing Lead within 24–48 hours of events for timely social media posting
Maintain respect for Islamic guidelines regarding photography including appropriate gender boundaries and privacy considerations
Develop shot lists in advance with Marketing Lead ensuring coverage of key moments and promotional needs
Build relationships with community members creating comfortable environment for natural, authentic photography
Organize and maintain photo library with proper labeling, categorization, and backup systems
Collaborate with Social Media Manager and Graphic Designer providing raw materials for content creation
Expectations & Commitment
Time Commitment: 10–15 hours per month (event coverage + editing + coordination)
Reporting: Direct report to Marketing Lead with photo delivery within 24–48 hours post-event
Equipment: Professional or high-quality camera equipment capable of low-light and event photography
Availability: Flexible schedule for evening and weekend program coverage
Professional Development: Continuously improve skills and stay current with photography trends
Success Metrics
Cover 100% of major events and 75% of regular programs throughout the month
Deliver edited photos within 24–48 hours meeting publication deadlines
Maintain photo library of 50+ new high-quality images monthly
Achieve 90%+ usability rate on submitted photos meeting quality and content standards
Zero privacy or Islamic guideline violations in published photography
First 90-Day Priorities
Photograph inaugural events establishing visual style and quality expectations
Build photo archive of key MKMC spaces, regular programs, and community moments
Develop shot list templates for different event types ensuring comprehensive coverage
Establish editing workflow and file organization system
Create backup and storage system ensuring photo preservation and easy access
Build rapport with community members and program leads facilitating natural photography
Systems & Tools
Professional camera equipment and lenses appropriate for event photography
Photo editing software (Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, or alternatives)
Cloud storage for photo library and backup (Google Drive, Dropbox)
File organization system with clear naming conventions and categorization
Communication channel with Marketing Lead for assignment coordination
Ideal Candidate Profile
Strong photography skills with portfolio demonstrating event and community photography experience
Technical proficiency in manual camera operation, lighting, composition, and editing
Cultural sensitivity and understanding of Islamic guidelines regarding photography and gender interactions
Ability to work unobtrusively capturing authentic moments without disrupting programs
Reliable, punctual, and responsive to event coverage assignments
Eye for storytelling through images conveying emotion and community connection
Own professional photography equipment
