Overview

The Newsletter Lead manages MKMC's email communication strategy, creating and distributing regular newsletters that keep the community informed, engaged, and connected to organizational activities. This role involves content curation, copywriting, design coordination, and list management to deliver compelling email communications that drive program attendance and strengthen community bonds. You report to the Marketing Lead and manage newsletter@masjidkhadijah.ca.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and distribute regular email newsletters (minimum monthly, ideally bi-weekly) covering upcoming events, program updates, community announcements, and inspirational content

  • Curate content from across MKMC departments ensuring comprehensive coverage of organizational activities

  • Write engaging email copy with clear calls-to-action that drive program registration and community participation

  • Collaborate with Graphic Designer on newsletter visual design maintaining brand consistency

  • Manage email subscriber list including new sign-ups, unsubscribes, and list hygiene

  • Track email performance metrics including open rates, click-through rates, and conversion to program attendance

  • Maintain newsletter@masjidkhadijah.ca email address as primary contact for newsletter communications

Expectations & Commitment

  • Time Commitment: 8–10 hours per month (content curation + writing + design coordination + distribution)

  • Reporting: Direct report to Marketing Lead with all newsletters requiring approval before sending

  • Publication Schedule: Minimum monthly distribution with goal of bi-weekly cadence

  • Email Management: Monitor newsletter@ email address and respond to inquiries within 24 hours

  • Professional Development: Stay current with email marketing best practices and design trends

Success Metrics

  • Publish newsletters on consistent schedule with zero missed distributions

  • Achieve email open rate of 25%+ (above industry average for nonprofits)

  • Maintain click-through rate of 5%+ demonstrating compelling content and calls-to-action

  • Grow email subscriber list by 30% within 6 months through sign-up campaigns

  • Demonstrate measurable increase in event attendance driven by newsletter promotion

First 90-Day Priorities

  • Audit current email list quality and conduct list hygiene removing inactive subscribers

  • Design newsletter template in collaboration with Graphic Designer ensuring brand compliance and mobile optimization

  • Establish content curation process gathering updates from all departments systematically

  • Create newsletter production calendar and workflow ensuring consistent publication schedule

  • Launch first 3 newsletters establishing voice, format, and content mix

  • Implement email marketing analytics tracking and reporting system

  • Email marketing platform (Mailchimp, Constant Contact, SendGrid, or similar)

  • Collaboration with Graphic Designer on visual templates
